ARC-Discovery Project "Keeping Kinship in Mind"
Keeping Kinship in Mind aims to contribute to the study of kinship by articulating a progenerative view of kinship that addresses the long-standing wariness that cultural anthropologists have expressed about that view. The important gap in knowledge that the project addresses lies in the philosophy of anthropology and the social sciences more generally and concerns our understanding of kinship and its study. By adopting a novel approach to a range of live issues in the contemporary study of kinship centred around progenerativism about kinship it will advance knowledge in the social sciences. And by building an international network in the philosophy of anthropology through various collaborations, the project will shape a currently developing space in the philosophy of science and place Australian researchers at the centre of that space.

Study Group on Philosophy of Anthropology
Philosophy of anthropology is an exciting and unexplored area, and this study group offers a great introduction to some of its issues. The study group is open to all and will be particularly relevant to those in the humanities and social sciences, both undergraduates and postgraduates. The study group will run fortnightly, starting on the 8th of November. All the readings will be sent to your email, together with the Zoom/Teams link to the meeting.
Meetings will be 1:30 hours long, starting at 1 pm, Perth time (check here the corresponding time at your location). There will be four meetings before Christmas (08/11, 22/10, 6/12, and 20/12), which will be focused on the concept of kinship in anthropology. Feel free to join all or selected meetings, according to your availability and interest. If you plan to attend, please let us know by sending an email to: jorge.mendonca@uwa.edu.au |
